Metabolism of ERYTHRITOL

Metabolism of ERYTHRITOL

Disposition of ERYTHRITOL

Disposition of ERYTHRITOL
(The above schema was created by Dr. Tsuneyuki Oku, Department of Nutrition, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, The University of Tokyo)

After being orally ingested, ERYTHRITOL is absorbed very well into the small intestine before entering the blood stream, where 90% or more of the ingested ERYTHRITOL is excreted into the urine without being metabolized.
Some (a small percentage) of the ingested ERYTHRITOL is excreted into stool unchanged. The rest is digested by intestinal bacteria at the lower part of the large intestine, thereby generating short-chain fatty acids and other organic acids. The human body may use these as energy.
