New ADI applied to Sucrose Esters of Fatty Acids by JECFA!

The forty-ninth JOINT FAO/WHO EXPERT COMMITTEE ON FOOD ADDITIVES (JECFA) meeting was held during 17th to 26th June 1997 in Rome. And it allocated a new acceptable daily intake (ADI) of 0-30 mg/kg bw for the sucrose esters of fatty acids instead of the present ADI of 0-20 mg/kg bw, which was assigned by the forty-fourth JECFA meeting in 1995.

In the 49th meeting MITSUBISHI submitted a well designed and conducted tolerance study in humans to the Committee. Accordingly this could spur legislation of new uses of sucrose esters of fatty acids on food applications in some countries.
